Welcome to a guided tour of Uppsala Castle Museum and Uppsala art Museum.

Uppsala Castle Museum tells the story of Uppsala and the history and development of the castle.

Uppsala Castle holds countless memories, objects, and stories — traces of all the people who have ruled, served, laughed, cried, and lived their lives within these walls, whether for a lifetime or just a single night.

These memories and destinies are part of the history of the castle, the history of Uppsala, and the history of Sweden. Like the castle itself, history is ever-changing. It is revised, reexamined, and rewritten as new perspectives challenge old truths.

The guided tour lasts approximately twos hour. You wil start at the Castle Museum and then continue at the art Museum.

2. Uppsala Cathedral

Welcome to a guided tour of the largest cathedral in the Nordic countries and its Treasury, home to one of Europe’s finest collections of medieval ecclesiastical textiles.

Uppsala Cathedral is a place where people have gathered for centuries. It was consecrated in 1435, and in 1477, Archbishop Jakob Ulfsson founded the first university in Scandinavia here in Uppsala.

The kings and queens of Sweden were crowned in Uppsala Cathedral until 1719. The cathedral took approximately two hundred years to build and was originally a Catholic church.

As you step inside the cathedral, you enter a gateway to Sweden’s history. Here, you can discover the relics of Saint Birgitta and Saint Erik, as well as the monument to King Gustav Vasa.

3. The tropical greenhouse at the Botanical garden

Guided tour of the Tropical Greenhouse at Uppsala Botanical Garden, followed by free time to explore the garden at your own pace.

Here, you can enjoy the magnificent Baroque Garden, visit the 200-year-old Orangery with its grand halls, or find inspiration for your own garden among the rockery plants, vegetables, summer flowers, and plants in the systematic garden.

The Tropical Greenhouse is home to Uppsala’s only rainforest. Here, you can discover plants from climates much warmer than Sweden’s and stroll among orchids, lianas, palms, and carnivorous plants.

The guided tour lasts approximately one hour. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the garden at your own pace or enjoy a traditional Swedish fika at Café Victoria, located close to the Tropical Greenhouse.

4. Pilgrimage hike

This excursion is a 6-kilometre walk at a gentle pace, from Uppsala Cathedral to the church in Old Uppsala. The path takes you from the buzz of the city centre to the peaceful fields of the countryside.

Walking the pilgrimage, regardless of your beliefs or worldview, is an opportunity to give yourself and your thoughts time — time to reflect on different perspectives on life and spirituality, and to slow down.

Reclaiming slowness is at the heart of this inner and outer journey.

The walk takes approximately two hours. Afterwards, we will take the local bus back to Uppsala city centre.

5. Join us for a lovely bike ride in Lunsen Nature Reserve!

We’ll spend a beautiful day cycling through the forest and, of course, enjoy a sunny day and a packed fika under the trees.

Make sure to bring a small backpack where you can pack rain gear, snacks, and a water bottle.

We offer two different groups:

1. Easy & relaxed mountain bike ride
No previous mountain biking experience is needed. We’ll introduce you to the basics, and you can wear regular, comfortable clothing.

2. Faster & more adventurous mountain bike ride
Previous mountain biking experience is required for this group. We recommend wearing suitable cycling clothes and bringing a change of clothes for dinner afterwards.
